Tribes of India
The scheduled
tribes population of the country is 8.43 corer, constituting about 8.2% of the
total population. More than half of the scheduled tribes population is
concentrated in the sates of Madya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha,
Jarkhand and Gujarat. 6.5 scheduled tribes communities live in about 15% of the
country’s areas, in various geoclimatic and ecological conditions ranging from
plains and forests to hills and inaccessible areas.
